Periodontics and Gum Treatment
Periodontal Pocket Reduction Surgery
Surgical treatment for selected deep periodontal pockets that remain difficult to clean after non-surgical care.
Periodontal pocket reduction surgery in Dubai
Periodontitis can create deep spaces between the teeth and gums where bacteria and deposits accumulate. When significant pockets remain after non-surgical treatment, periodontal pocket reduction surgery may be considered to improve access for cleaning and help control disease.
What happens during the procedure?
Following local anaesthesia, the gum tissue is carefully moved to provide access to the affected root surfaces and supporting structures. Deposits and inflamed tissue are removed. Irregular bone may be reshaped when clinically required before the gum is repositioned and secured.
When is surgery considered?
Surgery is not the first treatment for every periodontal pocket. Patients commonly undergo deep cleaning and root planing followed by reassessment. The procedure may be recommended when pockets remain deep, continue to bleed or cannot be maintained effectively with non-surgical care.
Recovery and maintenance
Temporary swelling, tenderness, bleeding or sensitivity may occur. Patients receive instructions about cleaning, eating and prescribed medication. Follow-up visits monitor healing and allow sutures to be managed when applicable.
Surgery does not eliminate the need for daily cleaning or professional periodontal maintenance. Long-term stability depends on disease control, risk factors and consistent aftercare.
