Periodontics and Gum Treatment

Deep Cleaning and Root Planing

Non-surgical periodontal treatment that removes plaque and calculus from below the gumline and cleans root surfaces.

Deep gum cleaning in Dubai

Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical treatment used when plaque and calculus have accumulated below the gumline. Unlike routine dental cleaning, it focuses on periodontal pockets and the root surfaces affected by gum disease.

What happens during treatment?

The dentist removes bacterial deposits from above and below the gumline and cleans rough areas on the root surfaces. Local anaesthesia may be used for comfort. Depending on how many areas require treatment, the procedure may be completed in one appointment or divided into separate sessions.

Who may need scaling and root planing?

It may be recommended when an examination identifies periodontal pockets, bleeding, inflammation or early bone changes associated with periodontitis. A periodontal assessment is required to determine whether deep cleaning is appropriate.

Recovery and reassessment

Temporary gum tenderness, bleeding or tooth sensitivity may occur after treatment. Patients should follow the cleaning and aftercare instructions provided by their dentist. A later reassessment measures healing and remaining pocket depths.

Some patients respond well to non-surgical treatment, while others may need additional periodontitis treatment or ongoing periodontal maintenance. Results depend on disease severity, risk factors and daily plaque control.

Common questions

Questions about this treatment.

Yes. Routine cleaning focuses mainly above the gumline, while scaling and root planing removes deposits from periodontal pockets and root surfaces below the gumline.

Local anaesthesia may be used depending on the depth of treatment, sensitivity and individual clinical needs.

Some cases can be treated in one session, while others are divided into several appointments. A reassessment determines whether further treatment is needed.
