What Are Clear Aligners?
Clear aligners are custom removable trays that apply planned pressure to move teeth gradually. Treatment uses a sequence of aligners worn according to the prescribed schedule.
Aligners may treat suitable crowding, spacing and bite concerns, but they are not appropriate for every case. The required movement, oral health and ability to wear the trays consistently must be assessed.
How Treatment Works
Digital scans, photographs and X-rays may be used to plan treatment. Small tooth-coloured attachments may be bonded to selected teeth. Patients progress through their aligner sequence while attending monitoring appointments.
Aligners are generally removed for food and drinks other than plain water. Teeth should be cleaned before the trays are reinserted. Insufficient wear, missed appointments or lost aligners can delay treatment.
Limitations and Aftercare
A digital simulation illustrates the proposed plan but does not guarantee the final result. Some cases may be managed more appropriately with fixed braces.
After active treatment, retainers help maintain the corrected positions.
