Broken Tooth Repair

Assessment and repair options in Dubai for chipped, cracked or broken teeth, selected according to the location and severity of the damage.

Assessment and Treatment for a Broken Tooth

A tooth can chip, crack or break because of an injury, biting a hard object, tooth decay, a large filling or teeth grinding. Even when the damage appears small, an examination is important because some cracks extend beneath the visible surface.

The appropriate treatment depends on the amount of healthy tooth remaining, whether the dental pulp or root is affected, the tooth’s position and the condition of the surrounding gums and bone.

Signs That Require Dental Assessment

  • A visible chip, crack or missing piece of tooth
  • Pain when biting or releasing the bite
  • Sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet foods
  • A sharp edge irritating the tongue or cheek
  • Swelling, persistent pain or a bad taste
  • A loose tooth following an injury

Severe facial swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, significant facial trauma or difficulty breathing requires urgent medical attention. For other dental injuries, contact the clinic promptly for guidance and emergency dental care.

How Can a Broken Tooth Be Repaired?

Minor rough edges may only require smoothing. Other cases may be treated with tooth-coloured filling material, bonding, an inlay, onlay or dental crown. If the inner pulp is affected, additional treatment may be required before the tooth can be restored.

Not every fractured tooth can be saved. Deep cracks involving the root or teeth with insufficient remaining support may require removal. Your dentist will explain the findings and available options after the examination.

What to Do Before Your Appointment

Rinse gently with water, avoid chewing on the affected side and keep any broken fragment if it can be recovered safely. Do not apply household glue or attempt to file the tooth yourself. If swelling develops, seek prompt professional advice.

Protecting a Repaired Tooth

Follow the dentist’s instructions, maintain daily oral hygiene and avoid biting hard objects. If grinding or clenching contributed to the fracture, a custom night guard may be considered.

Common questions

Questions about this treatment.

Many broken teeth can be repaired, but treatment depends on the depth of the fracture and the condition of the tooth, pulp and root.

A small chip may not require immediate treatment, but prompt assessment is recommended. Pain, swelling, bleeding or a loose tooth increases urgency.

Options may include smoothing, bonding, a filling, an inlay, an onlay or a crown. Deeper damage may require additional treatment.

Keep the fragment if it can be recovered safely and bring it to your appointment. Do not attempt to reattach it using household glue.

Some cracks can extend or allow irritation and infection to develop. Early assessment helps determine the condition and available treatment options.

Contact a dentist promptly after dental trauma. Severe swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, major facial injury or breathing difficulty requires urgent medical care.
