Vital Pulp Therapy and Pulpotomy

Conservative pulp assessment and treatment in Dubai for selected teeth where healthy or recoverable pulp tissue may be preserved.

What Is Vital Pulp Therapy?

Vital pulp therapy includes procedures intended to preserve healthy or recoverable pulp tissue inside selected teeth. Depending on the condition, treatment may involve protecting the pulp, removing only an affected portion or performing a pulpotomy.

This differs from complete root canal treatment, where pulp tissue is removed from the canals. Suitability depends on symptoms, pulp condition, tooth maturity, contamination, bleeding control and the tooth’s ability to receive a secure restoration.

When May It Be Considered?

Vital pulp treatment may be considered after selected deep cavities, controlled pulp exposure or dental injuries. It is not appropriate when clinical findings indicate that the pulp cannot recover or infection has progressed beyond the suitable limits.

Treatment Process

The tooth is numbed and isolated. Decay and contaminated tissue are carefully removed. A suitable protective material is placed over the remaining pulp before the tooth is sealed with a restoration.

Successful treatment depends on accurate diagnosis, control of contamination and a well-sealed final restoration. Follow-up examinations and X-rays may be required to monitor healing and development.

Possible Outcomes

Symptoms can occasionally persist or develop later, requiring root canal treatment or another procedure. No pulp-preservation treatment can guarantee that further treatment will never be needed.
