Pulp Therapy for Primary Teeth

Treatment for selected primary teeth where deep decay or injury has affected the dental pulp.

Pulp therapy for children's teeth in Dubai

The dental pulp contains nerves and blood vessels inside a tooth. Deep decay, fracture or trauma can inflame or infect this tissue. Pulp therapy aims to remove affected tissue, manage symptoms and retain a suitable primary tooth when clinically appropriate.

Types of pulp treatment

The recommended procedure depends on whether the pulp remains healthy enough to preserve, is irreversibly inflamed or has become infected. Options may include indirect pulp treatment, pulpotomy or pulpectomy. These procedures differ in how much pulp tissue is treated or removed.

Is the tooth suitable for treatment?

The dentist considers symptoms, examination findings, dental X-rays, remaining tooth structure and how close the tooth is to natural replacement. A tooth with an unfavourable prognosis or significant infection may require extraction instead.

Restoring the treated tooth

After pulp therapy, the tooth needs a restoration that seals and protects it. A pediatric dental crown is commonly considered for a primary molar when substantial structure has been lost.

Follow-up examinations and, when necessary, X-rays monitor healing. Pulp therapy improves the possibility of retaining the tooth but cannot guarantee that future infection or additional treatment will not occur.

Common questions

No. A pulpotomy generally removes affected pulp from the crown portion of a tooth, while root canal treatment addresses tissue throughout the root-canal system.

Treatment may relieve symptoms and preserve a useful primary tooth until it is naturally replaced.

A crown is commonly recommended for primary molars when substantial tooth structure has been lost, but the final restoration depends on the tooth.
