Orthodontic Emergency Care
Prompt assessment in Dubai for broken brackets, displaced wires, damaged appliances and other urgent orthodontic concerns.
When Do You Need Orthodontic Emergency Care?
Orthodontic appliances can occasionally break, loosen or irritate the mouth. Common concerns include a loose bracket, protruding wire, damaged aligner, broken retainer or lost removable appliance.
Most appliance problems are not life-threatening, but prompt advice can reduce discomfort and prevent unwanted treatment delays.
Common Orthodontic Problems
- Loose or detached brackets
- Wires rubbing the cheek or gums
- Broken fixed or removable retainers
- Cracked, lost or poorly fitting aligners
- Loose bands or damaged appliances
- Unexpected or persistent pain
What Should You Do?
Contact the clinic and describe the appliance and symptoms. Orthodontic wax may temporarily cover a sharp area if previously recommended. Do not cut wires, use household glue or attempt complex repairs yourself.
Continue wearing an aligner only if it fits without causing injury and the clinic advises you to do so. Keep broken or detached components and bring them to the appointment.
When Is Medical Attention Required?
Breathing difficulty, significant facial trauma, uncontrolled bleeding or a swallowed object causing choking requires urgent medical care. Dental trauma involving displaced or broken teeth should receive prompt emergency dental assessment.
