Periodontics and Gum Treatment

Gum Grafting

A periodontal procedure that adds tissue to selected areas affected by gum recession or insufficient gum thickness.

Gum grafting in Dubai

Gum grafting is used to increase gum tissue around selected teeth or dental implants. It may be recommended to protect an exposed root, improve tissue thickness, reduce sensitivity or help prevent further recession.

What does the procedure involve?

After local anaesthesia, graft material is placed and secured in the treatment area. Depending on the clinical situation, tissue may be taken from another area of the mouth or an alternative graft material may be considered. The technique is selected after evaluating the recession pattern and surrounding tissues.

Who may be suitable?

Grafting may be considered for patients with progressive gum recession, exposed roots, inadequate gum thickness or tissue concerns around a dental implant. Not every recession defect can achieve complete root coverage, and expected outcomes should be discussed during the assessment.

Recovery after gum grafting

Temporary swelling, tenderness or minor bleeding can occur. Patients are generally advised to avoid brushing or disturbing the surgical area until instructed, eat suitable foods and use prescribed medication as directed. Healing progresses over several weeks, while tissue maturation continues for longer.

Follow-up appointments allow the dentist to monitor healing and provide personalised cleaning instructions. Results vary according to the defect, graft material, healing response and aftercare.
