Frenectomy
Assessment and release of a restrictive band of tissue beneath the tongue or inside the lip when clinically indicated.
Frenectomy in Dubai
A frenum is a small band of tissue connecting the tongue, lip or cheek to nearby tissues. A frenectomy releases or removes part of a restrictive frenum when it contributes to a functional, orthodontic or periodontal concern.
Lingual and labial frenectomy
A lingual frenectomy treats selected restrictions beneath the tongue. A labial frenectomy addresses a lip attachment that may contribute to tension on the gums, hygiene difficulty or selected spacing concerns.
The appearance of a frenum alone does not determine whether treatment is necessary. Function, symptoms, age, dental development and recommendations from relevant healthcare professionals are considered.
What happens during treatment?
The area is numbed with appropriate anaesthesia before the restrictive tissue is released. The technique depends on the attachment's location and thickness. Sutures may or may not be required.
Aftercare and coordinated treatment
Temporary tenderness or swelling may occur. Patients receive instructions for cleaning, diet and any recommended exercises. Depending on the reason for treatment, care may be coordinated with orthodontic, speech, feeding or periodontal professionals.
Specific functional improvements cannot be guaranteed because outcomes depend on the underlying condition and any additional therapy required.
